Pont Neuf - The Oldest Bridge in Paris

King Henry III decided in 1578 to construct a new bridge to cross the Seine River. It wasn't until 1607 before the bridge was officially opened by King Henry IV, who named the bridge "Pont Neuf", the 'new bridge'. After his death, an equestrian bronze statue of the King was erected. The statue was knocked down and melted during the French Revolution, but was replace by an excact replica in 1818.
