What's Going On?

As military planes roared over the roof tops on July 14, 2012, these two curious cuties peered out from behind the curtains trying to catch a glimpse. Unfortunately, they were looking out and not up!

Les Fleurs

Flower shops abound in Paris. This one is near Cimetière du Pere Lachaise, the final resting place for such luminaries as Oscar Wilde, Sarah Bernhardt, Edith Piaf, Chopin and Richard Wright.

Passage to Rue de Birague

Last July, I stayed in an apartment that was located quite close to Place des Vosges. The passage way leads from Place des Vosges to Rue de Birague and Rue Saint Antoine.

A beach in the heart of Paris? Yes, each summer sun bathers and strollers alike can enjoy a 'seaside' experience on the banks of the Seine.

Soon, these colorful toy boats will be afloat in the Pond at the Jardin des Tuileries to the delight of small children and adults alike.

Opéra de Paris

It had been on my 'to do' list for quite some time to attend an opera in Paris. I got this opportunity last July. L'Amour des Trois Oranges was an unfamiliar work and I was a little nervous that I might not be able to follow the storyline. But, I was very pleasantly surprised to discover that above the stage appeared - subtitles! But, more than that, I was more surprised at how well I was to read and understand the French subtitles. OK, sure the most simple of vocabulary was used, but I was pleased nevertheless.

Pavillon de Flore

Le Pavillion de Flore is a section of the Palais du Louvre. This silhouette was taken from a boat on the Seine last July 14th. I cruised with a group of new friends up and down the River until the sun began to set. Then we made our way to the Eiffel Tower where we docked until the fireworks began. It was a great vantage point to view the fireworks, but not so good for photgraphs with the iconic Eiffel Tower in the foreground. Maybe next time.

Bicycle Tour on Pont des Arts

I'd gone to the Pont des Arts to watch the full moon rise. But alas, I have no photos to show. The vibration caused by foot traffic made it impossible to get a sharp image. Better luck next time.

Man on a Bridge

I'm sure you can't help but notice the padlocks that decorate the fencing of the Pont des Arts. The authorities periodically remove the locks, but it never lasts long.

Smile...You're on Candid Camera!

It wasn't until I viewed this image on my computer that I noticed the etched smiling face on the globe. It was quite a surprise.

Palais de L'Institut at Night

The lights of the Palais de L'Institut at the far end of the Pont des Arts reflected on the Seine.

Souvenir Seller

Where there are tourists, you'll find souvenir sellers. Some are more persistent then others, but most seem to respond to a firm 'non merci', that is - if you're not interested in their wares.

I purchase many of my souvenirs at the airport gift shop on my way home.

La Terrasse

Was it worth the extra money to stay in an apartment with a balcony in July? Heck yes!

Les Soldes

Sales in France are state regulated, last six weeks and generally occur twice a year - once in the summer and once in the winter. The summer sale started on June 26th and will run until July 30th. The 2014 winter sale will run from January 8th to February 11th.

Creperie Restaurant

There are countless cafés and restaurants where the hungry or thirsty can sit and relax and most importantly, people watch.

Shopping for Art

I wonder how many of these 'window' shoppers actually took a piece of Paris home!

Second-Hand Books

You have to wonder whether booksellers along the Seine can make a living selling second-hand books.

La Foule...The Crowd

No, this is not a recent photo. I captured this image in January 2010. This is the first posting of this image because I was unaware of the title of this sculpture or made it. That is, until today's posting from Eric Tenin of Paris Daily Photo fame. Thanks Eric!

Lone Park Chair

Oh, how I wish I could have been in Paris last week to experience the snow.

Snow Covered Vélibs

It snowed in Paris yesterday and I couldn't help but reminisce back to my snow experiences in Paris in January and November 2010.

Benches

The lock-covered fence in the background is a dead give away that these benches are on Pont des Arts!

Sidewalk Café

This photo was taken early on a Sunday morning, thus there are no patrons to be found; however with heating lamps and at least some portion of the seating area under cover, you'll likely find someone with an espresso, glass of wine or bottle of beer regardless of the weather.

Eiffel Tower in Winter

It would be an understatement to say that this is one of my favorite images of Paris. It was taken in January 2010 and since then has been the screensaver for my MacBook air, iPad and iPhone.
